Ralls County Library Newsletter

Check out this month's newsletter to stay up to date on everything happening at the Ralls County Library.

We are so excited to welcome two authors on one day in November-

Author Lanaya Gore and Author/Illustrator Twila Farmer.

These two ladies previously collaborated on the book Charlotte Mason, the Teacher Who Revealed Worlds of Wonder.

Both are excited to share their passion and creativity with us.

Lanaya will be visiting with the adults about homeschool curriculum, Charlotte Mason, and the writing process.

Twila will be sharing her book Umbrellas with the teens and kids, and leading them in a painting project.

Bring a packed lunch and join them for a picnic following story hour.

Notes from the Director - Debbie Jameson

Welcome November!

This month will be full of thankful thoughts. I am thankful for this library and the helpful, professional, dedicated staff that work here. I am thankful for a generous community and patrons who provide this service for our county. This time of year, the library is blessed with patron donations. Recently, The Center Park Board donated part of their funds to the Ralls County patrons through the library. We thank you for your gifts! As we are often on the receiving end of these donations (money, books, food, etc.), our friends within the county have donation boxes within our library foyer. Toys for Tots will accept new toys through Dec. 1, the Food Pantry corner is always accepting donations and the Ralls County Health Department’s Give a Coat/Take a Coat Campaign is ready as well.

Please consider any of these organizations or some of your own as this new season of giving begins.

As always, let us know how we can meet your literacy needs here at the Ralls County Library.

Thankful for each of you,

Debbie

It’s hard to believe that November is here! We will start the month with a little bit more about fall! I found a few more books about fall that I just have to share. We will also dive into the classic Stone Soup. Painting with vegetables will be the highlight of that week. We will, of course, celebrate our final week in November by reading and doing Thanksgiving activities. Saturday, November 15th there will be origami animal making and creative story writing from 9-11 AM. Thanks for supporting our local library!

Family Nights for November

Thursday, Nov.13

Join us for Family Night on Thursday, November 13, from 6–7 p.m. for an evening of stories, creativity, and community bonding. Families can craft maize corn creations with vibrant beads—a delightful activity that honors the harvest season while emphasizing collaboration.

We’ll also enjoy the story *Keepunumuk: Weeâchumun’s Thanksgiving*, offering a Wampanoag perspective on the first Thanksgiving, reminding us of gratitude, respect, and sharing. It’s a perfect chance for all ages to learn, reflect, and enjoy time with loved ones.

*All ages are welcome**, and all materials will be provided. Come and enjoy a cozy evening of crafting, storytelling, and connection!

BOOK REVIEW

from

Diane Schulte

One of the best historical fiction series, in my opinion, is Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth. These are epic books with detailed historical settings and compelling human drama. This series of books spans from the 12th century through the 19th century. The author weaves personal stories of love and struggle, family sagas, and fast-paced action with larger historically accurate events.

Suppose you are looking for a series to read on the cold winter days ahead that includes faith, war, survival, poverty, family, love, responsibility, and unity. In that case, this is the series for you!
